Some bands take an hour to record a CD that lasts 70 minutes, but Dutch legends THU20 took almost seven years (!) to record their third CD, apply called 'Derde Schijf'. THU20 have gained in all these years of silence a legendary status, mainly because the five members have solo works out. Their members include Roel Meelkop (solo works, but also a member of Goem and Kapotte Muziek, Jos Smolders (solo works), Jacques van Bussel (solo as DMDN, founder of Lewd and releases on his own imprints Midas Music and Supreme Tools Supplies), Peter Duimelinks (solo works, member of Goem and Kapotte Muziek) and Guidoo Doesburg (the only member with no solo music).
THU20 call themselves a 'modern musique concrete' group. The use everybody, concrete sound elements which are carefully placed and spliced on magnetic tape. They (re-)create a reality in sound of their own. A step forward from their previous CD's, is that some of these pieces are more a unity: there is a track recorded with vinyl, a track with just bells etc. Other then usual electro-acoustic group, THU20 don't dwell upon reverb, echoes and other studio gadgets. There is also a long excerpt from their last concert, in October 1997 in Paris, which is an opposite from the studio work: harsh and uncompromising.
This might be the last studio CD by THU20, since the five members are too busy with their other commitments... Cover design by Jos Moers in a handy carton sleeve bag, which will be our new standard for the 'serious' music releases.
